Prescription Eyewear

Millions of Americans need prescription eyewear to function in their normal, daily lives. All of these people have, at some point in their lives, gone to their local optometrist, sat in a dark room to take an eye test and received their prescription and paid lots for a pair of glasses. Since prescriptions tend to change as time goes on, this scenario has a tendency to repeat itself over the years.

Buying prescription eyewear online is much easier on your wallet and will also give you so many more frames to choose from. Eyeglasses that cost hundreds of dollars at your doctor’s office or glasses store often cost a fraction of the price when you buy them online.

There are a few things to know when buying prescription eyewear online. You’ll need to know what type of frame you prefer. Many online retailers allow you to upload a photo of yourself so you can “try on” different pairs of glasses or use pictures of different models. To insure that the glasses you purchase online will fit you perfectly, you need to know the size of the frames and lenses that you need, and you’ll be able to buy prescription eyewear according to that size.

You’ll also need to know your exact prescription, which you can obtain from your eye doctor. As long as it has not expired (they expire after a year), your optometrist should have no problem handing the written prescription over to you. Just remember, your prescription for glasses is not the same as your contact lens prescription; do not try to use them interchangeably.

You will also need to know your pupillary distance, or PD. This is the measurement of the distance between your pupils, and if you measure carefully, you can find this out yourself. This will insure that your lenses line up correctly.
